The New Jersey Forest Fire Service said it's working to contain the wildfire burning near Pine Park and the Lakewood Country Club that started on Monday, Nov. 18. The fire was zero percent contained as of around 3 p.m.
The wildfire has closed Clearstream Road between Brewers Bridge and Hope Chapel Road, officials said. Six structures on Seminole Drive are currently threatened by the flames, though no evacuations have been ordered as of press time.
To combat the fire, NJFFS has deployed fire engines, bulldozers, ground crews, and a helicopter to observe the spread. The cause of the wildfire remains under investigation.
This wildfire follows a string of recent fires across New Jersey, highlighting ongoing risks posed by dry conditions and strong winds. Earlier this month, the Jennings Creek wildfire burned more than 700 acres near the New York State border, sending smoke over North Jersey and taking nearly a week to reach 90 percent containment.
In South Jersey, a wildfire in Glassboro burned through a significant area last week, creating what one TikToker called "apocalyptic" scenes. Thick, black smoke that triggered 911 calls and carbon monoxide alarms.
Smoky conditions from fires in the Hudson Valley drifted into North Jersey on Sunday, Nov. 17, causing hazy skies and air quality concerns for residents.
Residents in affected areas are reminded to stay alert, follow updates from local officials, and report any signs of fire immediately.
The next update on the Lakewood Country Club fire’s status is expected at around 8 p.m.
